Carving tools, Haida Gwaii Museum, Skidegate, BC

Besides wood carving tools like knives, chisels and adzes, the local artist who worked on the creation of a new 12m tall totem pole out of a massive trunk of red cedar, also used a small electric chain saw. Not very traditional, but highly efficient. Unfortunately, the artist was on his lunch break when we visited the carving shed and we couldn’t wait for his return - we had a ferry to catch.
