Fall colours on the North Canol Road, Yukon

One of our favourite roads in the Yukon Territory is the Canol Road. It was built in 1943 by the US Army as a supply road for the Canol, or Canadian Oil pipeline. This short-lived oil pipeline ran from Camp Canol, near the oil wells at Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, to Johnsons Crossing, Yukon. The North Canol Road is only open during the summer and stretches 232km from Ross River to Macmillan Pass at the Northwest Territories border through the traditional territory of the Kaska Dena. This picture was taken at Dragon Lake, about 120km northeast of Pelly Crossing.
